PC Designs has begun web site setup and support. Our aim is to bring affordable web presence to small and new businesses who may want to refer their clients to a web site for more information on their products or services. We offer web sites that are simple, straightforward and cost effective. These types of sites are excellent when combined with automatic phone answering. A potential customer who may not want to stay on hold can go to your site for additional information, or to write you regarding certain information.

We also offer personal web page setup and consultation.

Web Site Myths:

• You need a lot of graphics to make a site stand out. Well, unles you're a multimedia freak or one of those companies that searches out sites to offer their services, most customers are satisfied with a straightforward and easy to navigate site, using a reasonable number of images to attract attenetion and get the point accross. Have you ever hit a site with a "Flash" introduction that keeps you waiting for 2 minutes (unless you're lucky enough to have DSL) and then shows you their tumbling logo for 10 seconds and ends with an "ENTER" button? Anoying. Isn't it? Some sites do have a "skip intro" button which most people click anyway. So what's the point? Depending on what you're trying to accomplish, it might be appropriate, especially if it is interactive. However, for most businesses, you want to get the customer to the information.
• If you have a web site, you need to put your catalog online. Not necessarily so. If you're a "Brick and Mortar" business in Maryland selling mattresses, you may not want people from Seattle, Washington trying to order online. Besides, if you provide a service, you may want to simply allow people to find you online and let them get an e-mail address, phone number or your location.
• Web sites require a lot of maintenance and are costly to maintain. This depends on many factors, but is not always true. If you want to maintain a site with a lot of frequently changing graphics that are taken from pictures and require a lot of processing (think www.cnn.com), then you may need to hire a company that has a full-time dedicated staff of graphic artists and software writers. That costs a lot and currently, we don't do that. But if you are a company that wants one or more pages of straightforward design, then PC Designs can help out at a fraction of the cost. We offer a basic web site for $349.00. Changes and web maintenance is at extra cost. "Maintenance" is any further work needed to keep the site updated.

You've seen $199.00 web sites offered. Why is ours better?

Most cheap web site offers are for designing a web page based on a "template". You provide the text, maybe a graphic and the web hosting company. They will design a page and put you on the "air". Some of the pages we've seen are pretty basic. By the time you've spent some time with them, set up your site, had them process some graphics and put all this together, you'll probably have spent at least as much as we charge, if not more.

We have a basic template we use, but we will modify it as needed to create a custom look. The difference is that we start with regular web page code - the simple stuff . We can add a few "JavaScript" scripts to add a date, or a simple slideshow. We believe in the "KISS" principle. (If you haven't heard of KISS, write us or phone us and we'll talk to you about it)

So what does $349.00 get me?

• URL Search and Registration.
• Web Hosting Setup. We do not do our own hosting. We use a professional, backed up, multi-site, secured hosting service.
• Home Page. We use an 800 pixel width format for our basic home page. However, the page is sizeable so that wider screens can make full use of the page without white borders. Wider is nice, but there are still laptops and 13" monitors that are 800 pixels wide.
• Web host provides free e-mail forwarding and autoresponders.
• Onsite visit by us in the local area, or e-mail and phone "visit" for out of area customers. We will be flexible about exchanging onsite and off site time with image processing or home page complexity.
• Digital picture(s) for use on the home page, which includes up to 1/2 hour of processing time.
• Logo conversion. If you have a clear graphic of your logo that we can scan, or an electronic file, we can integrate it into the home page.

We can provide you with extra services as well.

If you want "mouseovers", drop down menus, multi-level linked pages, online catalogs with lots of pictures, forms and CGI, we'll be glad to discuss pricing with you. Our rates are low because we're just starting this effort.

The Wright Idea - The site for Amish Lawn and Garden items. This is a catalog site with scanned and processed pages, pictures, maps, etc.

Loudoun County MADD - A non-profit site that requires monthly updates. All graphics and pictures (except as noted) were developed by PC Designs.

Our New Home - A personal web site showing the progress being made on a new home being built for the future owner. The site was designed to be simple and to allow family members the opportunity to see the progress.
