The Fireplace Before Complete Framing
The corner fireplace was chosen to give a more central focus to the room and to allow a window in the back wall, again to make the room "airy". If the fireplace had been put on the back wall, there would have been no room for a proper mantel or surround. One decision we had to make was what to do with the corner. In modern-style houses, it may have been left open and the space used for a vase, plant or other sitting decoration. As you will see, we opted for a more 1900's look by having a wall installed all the way up.
