We're standing on the shoreline on a point where Broad Run enters the Potomac behind Seldon Island which is to the right. The island is about 2 miles long and privately owned. We catch Crappie, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, very LARGE Bluegill, Yellow and Channel Catfish, and even a Muskie. The near shore is private, belonging to Broad Run Civic Association and the opposite shore belongs to an apartment complex. Unfortunately, the new neighbors have little regard for size limits and creel limits. Using hand lines they catch anything and put it in a cooler - even 2" long fish. We think they make Ceviche from the small ones. We've heard the word taco mentioned - one of the few words we've been able to understand. Sometimes there will be five or six people catching anything they can. They are down there every day. We've noticed a great decrease in the number of fish we catch since this has started. Too bad. The picture was taken in April. |
