| Here is the Victorian style marble surround fireplace, complete with the solid oak setback mantle. It will be stained to darken it slightly and then a couple of coats of Polyurethane. Ditto to the wood border around the marble on the floor. Each side of the fireplace has square wooden columns that end in the crown molding under the mantle plank. The mantle is made from a single piece of 1-1/2" thick by 11" red oak. It was cut from a beautiful 14 foot plank. I wonder what they (I) paid for that! It was John Simpson's idea to increase the thickness from the standard 3/4" shelf. Thanks John. It really looks nice. |
